What’s a girl to wear…

I’m heading back to Melbourne for a holiday in June and it is required that I show up to Vicki and Mish’s joint birthday party costumed. I’m not a costume-y kinda person, but it is my humble opinion that putting on a funny hat only counts as a costume if you’re furry all over and have four legs, so if I’m going to do this I might as well do it right.

The theme of the night is “When I was young I wanted to be…” It mentions nothing about what you wanted to grow up to be, which will allow those who want to be idiots to be idiots and those who want to be shiny ballerinas to be shiny ballerinas. I on the other hand would much rather be…

The characters/people I’m considering right now are Lt. Cmdr. Data from Star TrekJareth the Goblin King from The Labyrinth, and Albert Einstein, who needs no introduction. Yes, I’ve always wanted to be a man with hair that makes puppies cry.

In favour of Jareth, it’s less make-up than I wear on an average day. It’d be easy to don a suit and wig for Einstein, but I don’t know how I’d age myself and really, no one’s going to recognise young Einstein.

Then there’s Data whom I love immensely, but I’d need a wig, coloured contacts, huge amounts of make-up and a Starfleet uniform. I’ve never put make-up in my ears before, do you reckon that could end badly?

And if I end up being incapable of creating the uniform I want, I could always go as his evil brother Lore. I’ve never been eevilbefore.

Choices, choices…

I’m trying to imagine you with a lion mane spoofed out of your head for Jareth the Goblin King.

‘Yes, I’ve always wanted to be a man with hair that makes puppies cry.” Whichever outfit you choose, I’m sure it’ll look great, so remember to take photos!I love Jareth the Goblin King but I think if I’d ever shown up as him at a dress up party people would just ask me what was up with the mullet. To this day, I remain the only person in my circle of friends who’s seen The Labyrinth.

I think if you wore Lt. Cmdr. Data’s style, it’ll come out just great – But the make-up could probably be a problem – I don’t know if it’s good for makeup in your ears. The clothing probably wouldn’t be too hard to get (but I’m not sure)Einstein would make you look too serious – Unless you make your hair really wicked, about getting the older look.. I don’t know – ask a proffessional makeup artist about some tricks. It’s all up to you, make sure you take photos whatever you pick.Enjoy and good luck!

I like the Jareth idea (wahahaha I was able to watch the Labarynth myself) but Albert Einstein isn’t so bad.I did theater a couple of years ago and we aged our actors by adding some toothpaste to their hair (it sounds icky but it gets the job done) and darkening dimples with make up

So what did you go with in the end?If it was me I’d have tried for Data — he was my Star Trek hero when I was a kid!

Ok which one did you end up choicing for the event. Did you end up with some photos/ You should have gone with Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust days. Classic.
