Typhoon

1pm and it’s all ready getting dark outside. There’s a typhoon on it’s way over to HK, the first big one this year. Here’s how close it’s meant to get (the red star is Hong Kong).

A typhoon is coming

Yay for me since I love stormy weather. Even though typhoons often cause quite a bit of damage and flooding up in the New Territories, I think most people who live in the city think of them as simple a day off of work or school. (School for me, since I was meant to be having a tutorial tonight, but it’ll most likely be cancelled.)

Willie and I had an okay day out yesterday. Had one of those relationship talks – he doesn’t think he’s good enough for me and that causes him all sorts of worries. I think we’re okay now, sure we’ll be a bit on the quiet side for a couple of days but we both know that neither of us is going anywhere.

And now a couple memes, first the Theater Thursday and then Friday’s Feast.

Theater Thursday

This week sees the opening of the film adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s classic “I, Robot” starring Will Smith.

1. Who or what is your favorite movie robot?
Data from Star Trek TNG! Yes, I am a trekkie.

2. Will we ever see the day where walking, talking robots truly become a part of every day life?
I doubt it. I think we’d build them just to prove that we can, but what would be the purpose would having them walk around everywhere? I’m sure robots could be made useful by designing them to do jobs that might be considered dangerous to humans, but then what would be the point of putting in the extra effort to make them ‘walk and talk’? For many jobs it seems that it would be much more beneficial to model the robot after an insect rather than a human.

3. Should a robot ever be programmed to kill a human?
It depends, what world are we in? If we’re in the ‘real world’, then no. If we’re in Becca’s world where she is the world’s supreme leader and she has enslaved the entire human race, the perhaps.

Bonus: If you had a personal robot, what would you call it? What would you like it to do for you?
Marvin! After the robot from Douglas Adam’s inaccurately named trilogy. I imagine that it would be disk shaped, perhaps 12 inches or so in diameter, and it would hover about a metre off the ground. It would be programmed to find cooking, cleaning, and writing essays enjoyable and relaxing. When not unwinding by completing my assignments, it would fly around in public under a plastic bag, pretending that the bag was being blown by the wind. It would then proceed to indulge in all sorts of mischief, such as pick pocketing, tying people’s shoelaces together and making babies cry.

Fridays Feast

Appetizer: Make a sentence using the letters of your favorite color. (Example: BLUE – Bob loves using eggs.)
PURPLE – Please understand, random phrases lack energy.

Soup: If you were to be stranded on a deserted island and could only have one CD to listen to, which one would you want it to be?
Any CD that I’ve burned myself, as then it’ll have a variety of songs that I like.

Salad: How many people have you kissed in your lifetime?
Friendly kisses on the cheek, plenty. Extra friendly ‘I’m going to try see how far I can stick my tongue down your throat’ kisses, I’m guessing 13 or 14.

Main Course: Someone offers to give you $2 million, but says you can only have it if you will give half of it to charity. Which good cause would you donate the $1 million to?
Perhaps the Salvation Army as I’ve donated to them before, or either Amnesty International or the Nature Conservancy.

Dessert: What would you like to name your next pet?
They would be called Io and they would be a painted turtle. (I’m dreaming of course, haven’t seen Painteds imported into HK before.)

I love stormy weather too – when I’m safe inside, snuggling under covers and with a hot cup of cocoa. =)So. You’ve revealed your secret. You really want to be Queen of the World and have us all at your bidding, eh?? Not such a nice person, after all… LOL.Hum. “Io” is an interesting name. Have any significance to it?

PURPLE – Please understand, random phrases lack energy.Sheer genius Oh wow, a typhoon, sounds fun! Well, not for those who will be deprived from their homes and those who lose a couple of limbs trying to save their clothes from blowing away, but it’ll be fun nonetheless

Wow a typhoon! We don’t get weather like that where I am from. That’s some serious doodey. LoL We did however get a tornado in a county by us. 50 some homes were destroyed. Luckily we only had some severe thunderstorms and no flooding.

I love stormy weather too, but I have to admit, they do get a bit scary at times. I’ve never experianced a typhoon before, and I don’t know much about them…. but hopefully it doesn’t get too severe where you live.

I don’t know too much about thunderstorms, but I do enjoy the rain. It rained here too, which is just about a miracle. I live in Las Vegas so rain comes only once in a while.I guess it’s good that somebody realizes heshe is not good enough for hisher partner when it’s true. It shows that they care for you and want to give you what you deserve… kinda? :3

Wow.. a typhoon? That’s crazy. Hope you stay safe. I like stormy weathers too. Usually those who live where I do, in Seattle where it rains a lot, get kind of sick of the rain. But I don’t mind.

Typhoon. I’ve never experienced one. Where I live I’m more likly to have an earth quake… or two. I love storms though. Last summer we had a heat wave and many forest fires. Then after that it poured rain for almost 2 weeks stright. I LOVED it, even though it damaged alot of homes with flooding.

Stormy weather is wonderful. I really like to just look out the window in awe of the forces of nature. Except we don’t get typhoons. We get tornadoes instead. Both can be pretty scary.
