A bit late, but here’s the Sunday Brunch. This week’s topic is Fun in the Sun.

1. Do you prefer the beach or a pool?
If it’s sparkling clean (a rare find in Hong Kong), the beach, otherwise the pool.

2. What kind of tan are you most likely to get during the summer: a beautiful, bronze, laying out in the sun for hours tan; a gradual, few minutes a day tan; a “farmer tan” from working outdoors; or do you just get as red as a lobster and peel the next day?
The gradual, few days a minute tan. It’s not very gradual though, I tan pretty easily so after a few minutes it’s all ready noticable the next day. I think I’ve only ever burnt once in my life in Palau because the sun was so harsh. Not even hours of basking in Melbourne’s sunshine makes me red, so I guess I’m lucky.

3. Which summertime water activity are you more likely to enjoy the most… boating, jet skiing, waterskiing, swimming or floating down a lazy river on a tube?
I could go for boating.

4. What is your favorite picnic food?
Just a good sandwich. Yummy and not at all messy. Potato salad is also good, but mayo tends to give me a tummy ache.

5. Do you know how to cook on a barbeque grill?
Yep, and I’m surprisingly good at it (surprising because I’m vegetarian, so I cook for everyone else then go eat an apple or something).

Watched a late showing of Troy last night (it was only released in HK last week). I really enjoyed it, but I always have to dissect movies, so bad points first then good points.

Firstly, whoever played Helen was terrible! I’m rarely so harsh in my criticisms of actors/actresses, but she really did seem to ruin a lot of the scenes. (As far as the best acting goes, definitely Eric Bana as Hector and Peter O’Toole as Priam!) She’s an important character during the beginning, but I didn’t feel that she managed to draw the audience into the movie at all. You’d think Helen of Troy would project beauty, instead you get ’somewhat pretty’. Also, not all, but a good portion of the movie felt emotionally void. I can’t put my finger on what it was, but there was definitely something missing. I could tell a lot of the audience felt the same way, instead of feeling for the characters we were often left biting our lips trying not to laugh.

Now for the good points… Loved the action. Nothing compared to say, the Two Towers, but still good entertainment. Hah, afterwards Willie kept copying Brad Pitt’s little jumpy move, great inspiration for us small people! On the subject of Brad Pitt, I didn’t think his performance was nearly as bad as I was lead to believe it would be. I thought the scene with Priam and Achilles in the tent was fabulous and that it made the movie. Oh yes, and I very much enjoyed Odysseus’ (Sean Bean’s) craftiness. Kinda makes me want to see what the Odyssey would be like as a movie.

And now some random points. Lol, Willie was pretty happy to see Orlando Bloom have to play the coward. I say was, because I quickly deflated him by letting him in on the fact that when Paris was cowaring at Hector’s feet all the girls in the cinema were actually awwing and wanting to take care of him! We both agreed that Brad Pitt in that leathery thing was not good though (anyone else hear the outfit squeak when he sat down?) and that his legs are too skinny for it! And true, many parts weren’t true to the Iliad, but then again I wouldn’t want to watch a ten year long movie anyway.

Waffle, our new turt, is settling in well. He’s all ready starting to come out of his shell (hahaha ) and not get all shy when we approach. I think he’s happy, he’s got deep water and a nice warm light (neither of which he had before) and is taking full advantage of them both.

Had to visit my father’s earlier today. More on that soon.

[Edit] Hey anyone want a free custom layout? Seriously. I’m suffering from designer’s block and designing for others always seems to help kick start the creativity since. I guess I just get bored of designing for myself all the time. So yes, if you’re interested just leave a comment with a few keywords on what you’d like the layout to look like (e.g. clean, summery, retro, sunsets, Orlando Bloom…etc) and I’ll choose someone. Aah I’ve seen Troy. And you’re right about Helen – she’s a disaster – both artistically and visually Hector is hot but nothing beats my newly discovered love for Brad Pitt’s buttocks The scene in which Briseias (her name should be Cassandra but who would listen to a higly-educated-in- cultural-matters-such-as-this person like me? ) tries to “kill” Achilles he looks sooo sexy *drools* I was so jealous about the girl’s thigh when he touched her there har har oh by the way – I tried to find your email somewhere but I’m an idiot and I couldn’t. I wanted to ask you about those password protected entries. If you’d like to give the password to me I’d be glad xoxoxoxo and lots of hugs

I know what you mean about Troy. I left the theatres feeling unsatisfied and gypped by that movie, lol. It’s annoying how much the screenwriters changed the actual Greek mythology… Paris is supposed to be an arrogant creep! LOL… And Helen should have been GORGEOUS rather than meek and ’somewhat pretty’ (to put it in your words). I did appreciate the Priam and Achilles scene, however…Glad to hear that Waffle’s settling in!

I watched Troy a few weeks ago but I’m not much of a movie critique. I think Orlando Bloom as Paris in the movie was a good change And I think he played the cowering part pretty well too. Hector’s acting was fantastic

Sunday Brunch! I’ve been looking for something similar to the Friday Five since it shut down, and now I’ve found it. Thanks! I haven’t seen Troy, but I agree on Helen. First time I saw the trailer, I was surprised because she’s not that pretty. What happened to “the face that launched a thousand ships”? Oh well. Orlando Bloom is pretty enough for the both of them.

AARGH God TROY sucked major camel scrotum. They butchered the original story (even though the original is uber long, but at least stick to the essentials) and there were no Gods and Goddesses that took part in the movie, that was probably what was missing. And yeah, Helen was only “somewhat pretty”, even though beauty is relevant, but the actress who played Helen didn’t have the aura of beauty or something. The only highlight of the movie, aside from Eric Bana’s acting, was Brad Pitt’s hip muscles.Seriously.Oh and not to sound fakely interested, but it’s great that Waffle is settling in fine.

I don’t need a layout but you can make me something. lol I loved the movie Try. Brad pitt is sexy, all of him. I usually don’t like blonds but he is one sexy blond. Rawr! i would … you know… him anyway day. Yes, I agree, some of the actress’s were bad and about Orlando Bloom, I really don’t think he is all that sexy. He is ok but his face isn’t all that cute. I am more of a Johnny Depp Kinda Girl.

I agree with the movie Troy. It was a nice movie, very sad, yet it seemed like a lot of the movie was missing. I was shocked when the movie ended, I was waiting for more. Plus the movie Troy is not based at all on the story, they completely changed everything around. I was upset at the fact that the movie wasn’t correct with their facts, but other than that I liked it… it was entertaining. (I agree, Eric Bana and Peter O’Toole were the best actors) I remember when Orlando Bloom would chicken out a lot throughout the movie that the guys in the theater were all clapping and laughing. Then there is that part where Helen healing Paris’s wounds, and he tells her “you think I’m a coward, don’t you?” and all the guys in the theater were like “YEAH!” It was too funny. Anywho, I have been in a terrible layout block recently, and I can’t seem to change my layout recently. If you’d like, you can make a layout for me. I have never used someone else’s layout creations, so it would be a new experiance for me… haha. I would like something with bright rainbow colors.. like retro. If you changed your mind about making a free custom layout than thats alright. Just let me know through e-mail your decision.
