I was surfing BE today when I came across this little statement:
Pray the Name of Jesus will bring down the atheistic strongholds in China.
Gee, that’s kind. I’m not in the mood to write up a long post about atheism right now, but when I do, I’ll be sure to keep you in mind sweetheart.
Wow… Nice indeed : That;s why I’m not very fond of religions…
…. God didn’t become man and died just to save one race, one religion or one man. He came for all of us, aetheist or not, christian or not. We may all call him different or we may not see him at all. This is simly hypocrasy. This is not christiani at all he should be simply be ashamed of himself. It’s like where back to the Nazi’s who killed jews or The black discrimination. his reminds me of yuna’s little speech at the 1000 words concert in FFX-2 but I can’t remember what she said exactly.
Why are you so anti-Christian? Everyone is allowed to have his religion or have no religion and it’s okay to be Atheist like you are, sure. And do you think it will harm anyone if this person is praying?? I do not.
I’m not quite sure where the anti-Christian comment came from. I am Atheist, and I am Chinese. Therefore, I find someone praying that our ‘Chinese Atheistic strongholds’ are brought down pretty offensive. I think people should respect the beliefs of others, regardless of their own religion, and I feel that the person who wrote the statement does not. To me anyway, intolerance is wrong regardless of whether it’s simply thought or physically acted upon.
That statement is totally rude! I am atheist too and I have had fights with friends over this….
That comment is racist, and hypocritic. And that guy is a plain idiot.
…first becca, i love your site and think you have an exqusite eye for color, secondly i’m a christian and even i can understand why you would feel offended by the statement… the individual you mentioned made, and i apologize for that..without knowing where that person’s heart was in the matter, i cannot comment – i can say that it was out of place and not tackfully or knowledgably (sp?) stated… however the tragedy that’s happened is horrible and my family and i pray for peace and wholeness in your country….just 2 cents from a sistah who cares…. mb
Umm…okay. What makes the person think that everyone in China is atheist? And even if many are, what makes that person think that they need to be “saved” by Jesus? I respect other people’s religions (or lack thereof), but what gets on my nerves is when people imply that you’ll go to hell or whatever simply because you do not subscribe to so-and-so religion. How about a new mantra? You do your thing, and I’ll do mine.
Now that is totally rude! Even though I’m Christian, I have nothing against other religions. People should just respect other people and what they choose to believeor not believe in.
I’m guess I’m considered and atheist too… Religions… are a touchy topic to talk about. And I guess if everyone could just shut up about their own religion and mind their own business, things would be much better =]
Hmm, I am a free thinker. Well, the person who made the statement is obviously someone who condones racism. Heshe ought to respect the decisions and religions of everyone else in the country rather than to discriminate against them. A person may be an Atheist, but that doesn’t make himher any less human than everyone else! You are still a person with feelings, your own beliefs, and that person should respect that.Statement also mentioned ‘atheist strongholds in China’. Well, though there are quite a number of atheists in the country, they certainly do not cause any problems for China. So what I feel is that the person who wrote the statement may have a personal problem with an Atheist (perhaps a friend) in particular. And instead of settling the matter individually, he chose to stereotype all Atheists as a whole. How juvenile.
pssst : a religion isn’t a race… therefor hateful words aren’t racism… just plain hateful.
Lara: Oops. Sorry! My bad.
I don’t mind the atheist thing… but what doesn bringing down the strongholds in China have to do about religion? I’m Chinese!!
*sigh* some people just don’t know how to respect other’s beliefs…. just let it pass
Hmm, I’d find that pretty offensive too! Personally, I don’t know what I am, when it states “Religion” on a form I just write “Church Of England”. Never been to church before and don’t really intend to, so I totally sympathise.I’ve also dl’d your smilies and have them up at my site with a link back. Thought I’d add that in there too lol.
just as bad as Jahovahs Witnesses!
If atheists really don’t care about religion, then why does someone else “praying” that you will convert to Christianity bother you so much? I assure you, the atheists (or people of other religions) out there hoping that I reject my faith bother me not one iota, and in fact I encourage them to relate their sentiments to me as often as they feel the need to. I am a big boy, I can take it. Why can’t you?
Atheists “lack belief in the existence of God or gods.” Being Atheist doesn’t mean I don’t care about religion. I have read good portions of the Bible and continue to do so when I’m in the mood. Knowledge is power, and all that good stuff. Well I’m not sure how those you know reacted, but I would never tell anyone, friend or foe, that I wanted them to reject their faith (as long as whatever they’re following isn’t causing any harm). It’s something called courtesy – people’s beliefs dictate how they lead their lives. To believe otherwise is fine. Healthy discussion about faiths and religions is fine. To be so disturbed by it that you feel the need to tell them that you wish they would cast their beliefs away is a hurtful act.You may be a ‘big boy’, but I am still just a plain ol’ person who, like a good portion of people, can feel wounded or bruised when told that someone wishes I wasn’t what I am.
I totally agree with Becca. I am a Christian, but being so doesn’t mean anyone who isn’t should be forced/coerced into agreeing with me/my beliefs. I don’t believe in religion at all. To say you are a Christian, and then claim it is a religion while there are so many other religions around kinda makes it look like isn’t as important as it is. (saying that in general, your beliefs should be more than mere “religion”). People putting others down for their beliefs is very childish and close-minded. This world is diverse, but we all have the right to believe what we want, regardless of race, color, or ethnic background. There. Hope that was general enough not to hurt anyone…
