Summer Loving

Willie and I dropped by Ocean Park the other day. It drizzled on and off throughout the day, which was fortunate or horrible depending on who you ask. The moment it started trickling people would clear out, leaving the queues pleasantly short.

After a while I finally blurted out my dirty little secret. I really don’t like rides. I’ll go on them so you don’t think I’m a wuss, but the experience just isn’t fun. My internal organs get all confused, there’s no adrenaline rush to reward me, and it basically feels like leaning over backwards for too long. Once the truth was out Willie responded, “Oh ok… Now let’s go ride the mine train!”

Obligatory shot of the park:

For Will, who reckons rays have “the cutest faces”.

The world’s worst dolphin shot:

He just has to touch everything!

Some shark or ray thing

I realise now that I didn’t look nearly as distressed as I intended to.

Resting in the Japanese garden. Don’t we look like each other here?

Isn’t this guy/girl/thing awesome?

Around 6-something the real rain clouds starting moving in, so we headed back to town.

The best moment of the day happened once we’d gotten back into the city. We were a couple of metres from the road seeing if any good buses stopped nearby. After standing and talking for a few minutes, Willie wandered towards the road and right as he reached the rail a double decker roared by, showering him with road water.

It was one of the most incredible things I’d ever seen! Fortunately (and impressively) the majority of the splash went over his head. He turned around, stunned and completely horrified, and I sadly have to say that the first thing I did was to crack up laughing.

So despite the rain, the queue jumpers, and the bastards who use flash around the aquariums, it was a great day. I’m also told the hotdogs were fantastic.

I spent my sweet sixteen at Ocean Park because I happened to be in HK that month and I didn’t know where else to go or what else to do to celebrate. I’m not a big fan of the rides either partly because I’m afraid of heights. The pictures are lovely

The roadside story is pretty funny. I am not into big rides, too.. although I always try my best to be brave, but i’m also such a complete wuss. I had to admit that after feeling sick from riding the big roller coaster years back. Btw, those are great shots! I especially loved the one with the sea lion patting the man’s back.

Oh wow, how amazing (and scary) is that jellyfish shot!I love roller coaster rides, but I think that if someone said that they weren’t into them I wouldn’t go on them either… it’s not fun if the people you’re with aren’t having fun too.Poor Willie! I admit that I would have laughed too, but that’s never a pleasant thing to have happen. Lol.

I love rides! I know I’m scared stiff before the actual ride but after it, I’m thrilled! I love it heheheI would like to go to the ocean park too, my father has been there and whenever he had the opportunity he would brag it to us, how cool it was, how pretty etc etc hehehe

Peter: I’m using a Canon PowerShot S2. The quality’s a bit crappy in most of the pics because I kept forgetting to change my settings after leaving the aquariums.

Sighy. Those photos remind me of the fun I had there just a month ago. It makes me yearn for Hong Kong again. Like you, I used to dislike rides in past. However, after being badgered by my cousin on rides (in Genting Highlands) several times, I soon appreciated them more. And oh, the Mine Train and Raging River at Ocean Park! My friends and I went on those at least twice each because we simply couldn’t get enough of the adrenaline rush. And those underwater shots look good. Amazing what your camera is able to do. For some reason, most of the pictures I’ve taken at the aquarium (without the flash, of course!) came out blurred. So I resorted to photographing the corals instead, which turned out nicer. And that splash was an excellent ending to a great day, aye?
