The latest addition to our family:
Why Zeus? Well we thought such a majestic creature deserved a flamboyant name. He’s a Serrated Box Turtle (Cuora Serrata) and I’m absolutely thrilled with his arrival. He’s settling in well and thankfully is in good health.
I’m saving all the turtley details that most wouldn’t be interested in for Turtlog, so here’s a quick (probably boring) summary:
- All species in the genus Cuora are listed under CITES Appendix II. This means that they are “not necessarily threatened with extinction, but trade must be controlled in order to avoid utilization incompatible with their survival”.
- Some believe that Serrata is a hybrid between Cuora galbinifrons and Pyxidea mouhotii. Some don’t. I just intend to take care of my turtle and let the experts make a decision about that one.
- I’m ecstatic over finding and adopting him. My whole family (also turtle lovers) is delighted. My boyfriend thinks we’re crazy.
You are such a turtle fan. Lol. I wonder whether or not my boyfriend would like a turtle .. he’s rejected the rat idea already (I love rats!!). Anyway, he looks gorgeous and I’m sure he’ll stay that way what with the care I know you’ll lavish upon him. Lol.
I love animals… Zues is a great name for a turtile …I used to own a whole bunch of hamsters then my mother had me get rid of them as they had reproduced to an uncontrollable state.I have dogs now and I’m happy with little tomo

very cute little tutle. i think Zeus is a perfect name for him. i’m a cat, rat and snake fan myself but i wouldnt mind getting a tutle someday. they seem like wonderful pets.
I remember I used to have one really small turtle, but then my neighbours’ kids stole it. So mean. Anyway, I think your turtle is cute, but it’s so big compared to mine. Becareful, my friend once lost his turtle because it climbed out into his deck and fell off. And you know how in Hong Kong all the buildings are so tall, yea it died.

Zeus really is a gorgeous turtle! His colouring is just beautiful.With your love of turtles, I can just picture you as the cool turtle lady later on in life. How many do you think you’ll eventually have? 20? 30?
Zeus is lovely, such a sweet turtle, which is odd since i dont normally like things like turtles but Zeus is an exceptionn i love the markings on his little neck

Zeus looks so adorable! He seems to have a slightly ‘dazed’ look from that photo. But very soon he would be used to your camera! Haha.
I have a turtle too, they are so much fun to have. Mine is a red-eared slider, though. Anyway, I love the name, Zeus.
Ahh! I used to have a turtle, but it got sick and died x.x I didn’t have any money to take it to a vet. I hope he fits in nicely with your turtle family! He is mega-cute

Awww, soo adorable. I alway’s wanted a pet turtle, but felt that it would be a bit stressful to care for one. Well, I do have a zoo at my house already as it is… so one more pet is out of the question.

Cute turtle! I used to have a turtle…but then he got to big for his cage and we had to give him away. Now I miss her. She’s prolly still alive though! Perfect name too!

Aww, where’s Becca? It’s been quite a while.
I was given a baby desert tortoise in 1988, named it Zeus. Sweet little thing, barely an inch and a half long. It takes a few years before you know the sex of a desert tortoise; turned out Zeus was a female. Today, about a foot long, she lives in our Arizona backyard with a male tortoise, Soki, who came to us as a baby about 1993. They have given us several nests of babies; today there are six beautiful babies in our indoor habitat, all hatched last October.
How adorable! Zeus is a perfect name for him.
I absolutely love Turtles. I want one badly now. I used to own three RES but had to pass them on to someone who had more funds to care for them as they grew and got bigger. Since then though I have more money and have been looking into getting a Greek/Russian/Egyptian tortoise. In either case, I want one terribly bad but they are pretty pricey. Congrats on the awesome find though! I’ll have to research and see if there are any reptile stores around me that I can look through.
