Becca buys a phone

My phone bills have been pretty high lately due to how much I text, so I went ahead and switched to a more fitting tariff plan. I figured I might as well look for a new phone as well – my Nokia 3120 served me well, but after so many drops and falls it was time for the old girl to retire.

It’s not uncommon for me to walk into a store and find absolutely nothing that I’d consider handing over cash for. Poor Mom and Will had to stand there listening to my typical product responses:

“What do you think of this?”
“I don’t know, it’s kind of ugly.”
“What about this one?”
“I’d like it if it wasn’t so horrible.”

I wouldn’t say I’m a nightmare so much as I’m blatantly honest.

Nokia 5300 I ended up choosing a Nokia 5300 in grey. I’m pleased with it so far; it’s sturdy, user-friendly, and the music player is nice since I don’t own an MP3 player. I haven’t played with it that much yet, but apparently it should prove impressive. It’s my first camera phone so I can’t rate that, but according to Momsy the picture quality’s great for a mobile.

On the downside the back cover was annoying as hell to open and the default themes were horrendous at best (save for the plain blue Nokia one, which is boring but inoffensive).

Now to start downloading Star Trek addons to turn it into a tricorder…

An Update on Life

A quick update on how life is.

Bought myself a new phone not along ago, here’s a pic of the little girl:

A windy day #1

It’s a Nokia 3120. Didn’t want a fancy phone, don’t need a built in camera and my PDA takes care of most other things. What I did want was something cheap enough so that it wouldn’t push me too far away from my goal of saving up enough for a good digital cam. After rebates, she’ll have taken HK$600 (just under US$80) from my bank account. Not bad at all.

The weather’s been gorgeous lately, the summer heat and much more horrible humidity seem to have passed for this year. There’s something about good weather that makes everything seem more beautiful. Willie and I being blown away in the breeze:

A windy day #1 A windy day #2

Pic taken before a zit the size of China popped up on my cheek. I really need to lay of the cheese chips.

Oh yes, and I’m now officially on a diet. After quitting smoking my weight crept up to 105lbs, which may sound fine and dandy but I have at least three pairs of pants that I can’t quite squeeze into anymore. Trying to do so proves to be rather frustrating.

Dorothy, my Red-eared slider, has finally moved into her new tank in my room. Her favourite hobby is now rearranging rocks while I’m trying to sleep and diving off her dock (spllaasshh) while I’m trying to sleep in. Good fun.

Site-wise, I’ve decided to finally let go of the old themes/styles. Retiring them is strangely difficult, but I know I can do a better job now than I could when I made them.

I hope to blog again soon, but if I do end up slacking off (it’s been known to happen), then you can always keep yourself amused at Elea’s or Skye’s, two of my absolute favourite personal bloggers.

Insaniquarium

Virtual tank Downloaded the cutest game from Pop Cap the other day and have been playing practically non-stop ever since. Insaniquarium Deluxe consists of four modes, two of which can only be played after you complete part or all of the adventure mode.

The game basically goes something like this: In adventure mode, you feed the fish, and as they grow, they drop coins – the bigger the fish, the more valuable the coin. You collect coins to buy food, more/different types of fish, weapons, and egg pieces. You have to buy three egg pieces to finish the level, and then you’re rewarded with a new pet who can help you in later levels. Oh yes, and every 90 seconds an alien attacks and tries to eat all your fish (didn’t you wonder why you needed weapons?).

In time trial mode, you have to earn as much money as you can within a given amount of time. In challenge mode, you have to complete an egg as in adventure mode, however the task is made much more difficult by rapid inflation and increasingly vicious aliens. The last mode is virtual tank mode. There you can relax and spend the shells that you’ve earned through the other modes on various fishies and features for your aquarium.

It is insanely cute, but things such as the alien attacks, breeder fish that fart out babies and scuba-diving elephants keep you from wanting to strangle it.

Clie NX73V

Just got home from walking for a couple of hours… Willie and I wound up in TST again with nothing to do so we decided to just pick a direction and walk. It was good, we got to get away from all the people and just chat about all sorts of randomness, something we haven’t really had the time to do lately.

Got my new toy, a Sony Clie NX73V. Not bad at all, I don’t need anything more advanced as it has everything I need to keep organised. And of course, the first thing I did was install some skins (it’s leopard print right now.) Played around all the organiser tools for a while then tested out the camera (muah, I had no idea these things came with cameras. )

Our eyes

Typical Becca and Willie shots. Everyone’s always said we’re the perfect couple since I’m evil and he’s deranged. I think those were 640×480 before I resized them, which is good enough to take photos to put up in blog entries and such.

I’m now addicted to tea. Heh, I bought some fruit and herb flavoured teabags to try and wean myself off of diet soft drinks (too much artificial sweetener can’t be a good thing) and they’re just so tasty.

Unprovoked update: Added four new smilies sets. They’re just recolours of the 11×11 smilies, but I’m pretty happy with how they look.
